Introduction & Background
Copper nickel plated steel strip (CNPS) is one of significant metal materials of all coin cell factories. CNPS is made of base material cold rolled steel strips, one side plated by nickel and one side plated by copper. It is mainly used for manufacturing battery cases of alkaline button cells and silver oxide button cells.
 
Before year 2005, all international coin cell factories in China sourced and purchased CNPS material from Japan manufacturers. The famous Japan manufacturers include Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd.
 
Milestone of Himax CNPS
In year 2005, Himax became the first metal strip continuous plating factory in China successfully manufactures high quality CNPS materials and introduced it into the market. After many international coin cell factories appreciation, it is proved that CNPS material from HIMAX is fully compatible to Japan CNPS, but with shorter lead time and much lower unit price. Therefore most battery factories in China shifted to HIMAX in purchasing CNPS.
